Michael Flanagan - a member of the Flanagan Brother's band - settled in Albany. The musical heritage, tradition and legacy of Michael Flanagan and the Flanagan Brother's band is present today both in the Capitol District and globally through the efforts of the Flanagan family. Indeed, the Irish American Heritage Museum's Flanagan Theater and the regular performances performed there are a living monument to the Flanagan legacy.
In the 1920s and 1930s, the Flanagan Brothers were one of Irish music's most successful acts. Major attractions both on radio and live at all of NYC's most important dance halls, the group's creative, high-spirited energy perfectly reflected that era’s Irish sensibility and is captured on the nearly 170 sides they made through every record label of the day.
This concert will explore the ebullient genius of these recordings, and feature a program of in-person performance set against an extraordinary backdrop of archival sounds and projected images that celebrate the music and lives of these important Irish music pioneers.
There will be musical performances by three giants in today's vibrant traditional Irish music scene: Daniel Neely, Diarmuid Ó Meachair, and Brendan Dolan.
PLEASE NOTE: THE PROGRAM COMMENCES AT 6:00 PM, WHERE IAHM WILL PROVIDE A MEAL AND REFRESHMENTS FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO JOIN THE MUSEUM AND MEMBERS OF THE FLANAGAN FAMILY FOR A PRE-CONCERT CELEBRATION. THE PRESENTATION/CONCERT WILL COMMENCE AT 7:00 PM
