Briege Murphy, Singer/Song Writer at the Museum.

Briege is a singer-songwriter from Armagh, who writes contemporary folk songs, and sings Irish traditional songs. She tells the story behind the song usually with a good dose of humor thrown in. For many years, she was a member of the local "Ring of Gullion" Comhaltas in my home village of Forkhill, in Co. Armagh.

Her songs have been recorded by people like Niamh Parsons (e.g. songs Cloghinne Winds, Lappin), Frances Black and Aoife Scott (The Hills of South Armagh ), Rig the Jig, Don Stiffe, Anthony John Clarke, The Border Collies, Scold's Bridle, The Once (Canadian National folk award winners), Sue Matthews, Maryland, and many more around the globe.

Briege has 5 albums of her own songs released, and one of Irish traditional and American folk covers. One of her recordings is on an Arts Council Compilation album, produced in association with the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.and our Northern Ireland Arts Council.
