To commemorate Memorial Day, Film Club will screen an old classic - The Fighting Sullivans. It is (loosely) based on the true story of five brothers who served and died together as shipmates, and their family, and was the inspiration of saving Private Ryan. In November of 1942, the Sullivan brothers were all serving aboard the cruiser U.S.S. Juneau in the Pacific when the ship was torpedoed by the Japanese during the battle of Guadalcanal. The brothers, who had received special permission to serve aboard the same ship, were all killed. This film is a story of patriotism, grief and loss, starring Anne Baxter and Thomas Mitchell as the parents.
This film will be shown at the Michael Flanagan Irish Music Heritage Theater in the museum. Admission is $5 per person.
