Samhain is the Celtic festival that celebrates the end of harvest and the start of winter. The time is also known as "the thinning of the veil." The Celts believed the barrier between the world of the living and the world of the dead was at its thinnest during this time, and that the transparency allowed spirits and ancestors to more easily pass between realms. This "veil thin'd" time was considered a period of both reflection and where those who have passed on were honored. Samhain was often marked by rituals, storytelling and increased intuitive experiences.
IAHM is proud to welcome back to the Flanagan Theater renowned storytellers Eileen Egan Mack and Claire Nolan, who will tell / perform "Samhain - The Thinning of the Veil." Eileen Egan Mack grew up in Ballston Lake, NY where her mother, the school librarian, shared her love of books and passed on her love for telling stories aloud to her four daughters and many, many school children. Eileen performs throughout the Northeast as a storyteller, singer and voiceover artist, and is also a dear friend and supporter of the Irish American Heritage Museum. Claire Nolan is a brilliant writer, storyteller, and historical re-enactor. Claire has written and performed several sold-out plays about women at the Irish American Heritage Museum's Flanagan Theater.
StoryCircle of the Capital District, was created in 1983 as a guild with meetings for members to practice creative works in progress. Story Circle celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2008 by starting a partnership with Proctors Theater (Proctors Collaborative), and is known as Story Circle at Proctors.
