John McDonagh's "Off the Meter"

John McDonagh knows New York City better than most. He has been driving a New York City yellow cab for 40 years. He has used that experience to write and perform a one-man play called Off the Meter about his observations of a changing New York City. Off the Meter was produced by The Irish Repertory Theatre and was directed by the Irish Rep's founder Ciaran O'Reilly. McDonagh has performed his play throughout the tri-state area and recently returned from a successful tour of Ireland.

When he is not touring with Off the Meter, John produces and hosts Radio Free Eireann with co-host Malachy McCourt, a weekly radio shows heard on Pacifica station WBAI, New York. John is a board member of Irish American Writers and Artists, and has been featured in the BBC program Steven Fry in America, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, and many others.

Off the Meter will be performed in the Michael Flanagan Irish Music Heritage Theater in the museum on Saturday, March 25th at 7pm. Tickets are $15 for museum members and $20 for nonmembers.
