The Irish American Heritage Museum (IAHM) is honored to welcome the multi- talented Eileen C. Egan Mack to perform her historical reenactment entitled "Voice of the Mountains: Jeanne Robert Foster, an Adirondack Legacy" at Albany's most intimate venue, IAHM's Flanagan Theater - nominated for the 2026 Thomas Edison Music Award and Hall of Fame's "Best Alternative Venue" award.
Eileen brings to life the story of Jeanne Robert Foster, a true 19th and 20th century "Renaissance woman."
THIS PRESENTATION IS TO BE FOLLOWED BY AN IAHM "READERS' THEATER," AN OPPORTUNITY FOR PEOPLE TO READ POEMS OR A PLAY/STORY IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE.
ABOUT THE SHOW
From the 19th century wilderness of the Great North Woods to a cosmopolitan life in the early 20th century, along with her later years in the Capital Region, Jeanne Robert Foster was at home and fully immersed in her woodland or urban surroundings. This performance honors Jeanne's life and writings. Singer/actress Eileen Egan Mack portrays Jeanne Robert Foster brilliantly, and how living in the mountains prepared her for life beyond the Adirondacks: a life that spanned seas and continents. A working professional, Jeanne Robert Foster was a model for Harrison Fisher and Charles Dana Gibson. More importantly, Jeanne Robert Foster became a respected writer, reporter, and poet.
“Voice of the Mountains” shares readings, stories and songs that reveal life in Jeanne’s 19th Adirondacks, where there were many Irish settlers - both Catholic and Protestant - in her ‘neck of the woods.’ While much of women’s roles has been as hidden as a ‘showy lady slipper flower,’ this program is an opportunity to share Jeanne Robert Foster’s light and life in her beloved mountains, and her adventures as she “set her feet to far off roads.” Together, Eileen Egan Mack will take us on a journey back in time through stories, readings and songs.
Following "Voice of the Mountains: Jeanne Robert Foster, an Adirondack Legacy," Eileen Egan Mack will facilitate IAHM's first "Readers' Theater," where IAHM community will have an opportunity to read poems or a play or a story in front of an audience. Bring works you are interested in reading, or help in reading some other Jeanne Robert Foster's works.
